HMV bag- Evaluation

For this assignment we were asked to create an icons of pop bag/poster for HMV, we were given a list of all the top 100 artists of the past century and had to pick one to base our poster on, I picked U2 The Joshua Tree and used the image of all the band members together to show that they were icons of pop.

We were then asked to create a paper bag with our designs on it, I couldn’t pick just one artist to do so I used typography art to create the HMV logo using the artists names, I did come up with the idea to do the same thing except with a transparent collage of all the album arts but it didn’t go according to plan so I scrapped the idea.

I personally think the design was pretty well made and I don’t think I could have done any better, I think that HMV would use this idea because it stands out to the music lovers and also shows all the top artist of the last century. I chose this design because I think it stands out other then other normal artwork.

Originally I had drawn the design by hand to look and see what the logo would look like, I then used adobe InDesign to create the main HMV logo and then used Photoshop to create the bag. The artwork was created to specific specifications as it had the correct resolution for printing and the correct dimensions.

I also created another HMV typography logo except with a black background instead of a white one.

Urban Juicy Crew

This was the original rough copy of my three characters of the the Urban Juicy Crew, i based the characters off of a popular british boy band The Midnight Beast, from left to right Dru the date, Strawberry Stef and Apple Ash.

This is the template i created to make a model of the middle character Strawberry Stef, i used all the colours that are associated with strawberries including yellow, green and red.

This is the finished product except the arms would not fit into the body properly without looking wonky.

Music Campaign

This is the album cover for American Idiot the seventh studio album released by the American punk rock band Green Day, the colour scheme for this album cover is black, red and white this shows that they are a punk rock band that play quite depressing songs.

This is the album cover for The Joshua Tree the fifth studio album from the irish rock band U2, it features all the band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. The colour scheme for this album is black, grey and gold the signify that U2 are a very emotional band that play emotional music.

This is the album cover for the Beatles White Album the ninth studio album by the british band The Beatles, it has a basic colour scheme of plain white with 'The BEATLES' written in grey to make it stand out. This album was recorded after the bands trip to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and also caused conflict ion between the band members and  resulted in Ringo Star leaving the band for a while.

Advertising Campaigns

  1. Silhouette
I like this advertising campaign because it shows the basic shape of the image and it also has a basic colour so it doesn't make itself to complicated to the viewer.

2. Typography
I like this advertising campaign because it expresses all the aspects of what the picture is advertising using words intertwined in the logo.

3. Billboards
I like these types of advertising because everyone can see them whether they are driving or walking they always stand out and have any type of advertising you like.

HMV Logo History

HMV Logo History

The hmv logo was originated from a painting called His Masters Voice which featured a Jack russell terrier listening to a phonographic cylinder gramophone. HMV stands for His Masters Voice and the logo has been used for over 90 years since HMV was founded back in 1921. Over the years the HMV logo has changed majorly from the original painting to an animation of the dog and gramophone playing in the snow, however most of the time the logo is simply a silhouette of the dog and gramophone on top of the HMV words.
